IT Seminar - Day 2 - Spain
The second day of the seminar was organized by the Spanish team. They had also focused their workshop around AR.
Morning
In the morning we were introduced to Blender a free 3D modelling software they used. One of the students gave us a “follow along” tutorial where we learned the basics of creating, editing and personalizing models by creating our own robot.
We were also given a render of a sword to play with and experiment on.
Following that we had another “follow along” tutorial, but this time we were going to create an AR room that you could “teleport” to by walking through a door. I particularly enjoyed this tutorial but sadly the final app didn’t work on my phone due to the Vuforia engine only supporting the most common phones such as the latest Samsung ones.
Afternoon
The afternoon was more experience/play oriented as we were once again separated in two groups.
One of the groups could play some Beatsabre on a VR headset. This is VR rhythm game where you have to slice cubes that fly at you at the rhythm of the soundtrack. I was able to let my inner samurai out to the beat of Bleeding Out by Linkin Park.
While one team relaxed and played those games, the other group was hard at work solving an AR puzzle game. In this game, (coded in just 1 week by 2 spanish students!) we had to scan several pictures and solve the accompanying riddles, such as rearranging colored tiles to create a spaceship, rotate and align interlocked wheels, answer riddles, etc.
